Talent Match

Helping salon owners convert their culture story into a recruiting magnet ✨

Finding salon talent is not as simple as it used to be.

In the “old days,” we would post a job on Indeed or Facebook and wait for the right stylist to apply. Post and Pray is done for.

“I posted a job on Indeed and no one is applying”

This point commonly frustrates the salon owners I talk to. It is frustrating because these postings used to work and now they don’t. Not to mention the budget requirements of Indeed have more than doubled if you want to have visibility on your job posting.

So, if you are spending more money and writing savvier job postings the question becomes “why are people not applying?”

Today’s stylists are doing their research to learn more about your salon and your team before they even consider applying.

The answer is that today’s talent is not just relying on your job post when determining if they want to work for you. Today’s stylists are doing their research to learn more about your salon and your team before they even consider applying. So, while you might have a job posting that looks amazing you have to ask yourself if the insights to your brand stop there? Or do they extend into all of the other places that today’s talent tells us they are looking once they discover your brand?

According to the 2021 Workforce cosmetology students and hairstylists have a clear pattern they follow when it comes to learning more about a salon brand.

You have to start thinking about Indeed as a discovery tool- not the final destination.

  1. They check out your Instagram
  2. They check out your website
  3. They check out your team members Instagram’s

They want to know if you are worth their time.

And if they land in any of these three places and don’t find what they are looking for it’s likely that the job posting they originally discovered you on will quickly be forgotten.  They want to know if you are worth their time. They want to know if you are compatible. They want to know if the people who work in your business could be “their people”.

Do you know what your team’s “employee avatar” looks like?

Are you telling a compelling (and accurate) story in all of the places we know they go to learn more? Do you know what your team’s “employee avatar” looks like? Meaning- do you know who your dream employee is? What do they want, need, and desire most from your salon brand?
